Our vendors not only offer amazing products for all types of people, and animals, but their stories about their companies, beginnings and experiences are incredibly interesting and unique. We sat down with Danielle of Barklyn Organics and got the inside scoop on how her company was born. Spoiler alert: her rescue dog, Barci (pictured below), was her main inspiration!

“My partner and I had fallen in love with a small rescue dog that we were fostering, and decided to take the plunge and adopt her. She had been on the streets for such a long time that she had developed a large number of health issues, and had been red-listed at the shelter (next to be put down). I began to notice that when she ate, she would often turn bright pink on her under belly and paws, and became very lethargic– which led me to believe that something in her diet may be causing her sickness. I figured, I’ve always been invested in healthy cooking and nutrition… why not try giving the same care and attention in the kitchen to this sweet little dog? I began researching how to prepare balanced meals for dogs and set to work in the kitchen. Everything I prepared was free range, grass fed meat, organic and locally sourced. I found the equivalents to human “superfoods” and natural cancer fighters for dogs, and began feeding my dog food that I would essentially eat myself. Within a month, she was a completely changed animal. Her coat was thick and shiny, she was no longer lethargic after eating, and most importantly, she seemed happier. It turned out she was allergic to multiple ingredients used as ‘fillers’ in most commercial dog food, which I later learned is quite common. A few of my friends who had witnessed my dog’s little miracle, started to come to me with questions about their own dogs’ diet. Bosco was having skin allergies, Dodger was gassy, Telly was having joint pains from obesity… and the list went on. I take enormous pride in cooking for my friends and family, and decided to head back into the kitchen, only this time for their dogs! After a few months of my home cooked meals, all three dogs were equally cured. I couldn’t believe it. It dawned on me that by buying commercial grade food for our pets, we are essentially feeding them the human equivalent of fast food for every meal of their entire life. I’m convinced that we all live longer, healthier lives when we eat clean, fresh home cooked meals– and that goes for our animals as well. That is how Barklyn Organics was born.
Barklyn Organics is 100% free of preservatives, fillers and animal-by-products. Every ingredient in their bowl could be found on your own plate at a high-end restaurant. Apart from the ingredients themselves, which are all fresh, organic and locally sourced, we also offer a range of ‘Barklyn Boosts’, which are added supplements that can be selected and blended into their meals. We offer boosts for older dogs that aid in joint pain, boosts for puppies as they grow, boosts that fight cancers, boosts that speed up metabolism, and many more. BarklynOrganics meals are all home made so that they can be tailored to each client’s specific needs.
Our most popular items are Grandma’s Chicken Stew which is great for dogs with food sensitivity, our Catch of the Day moist blend which uses fresh salmon, and our free-range, organic, hormone and atibiotic free range chicken jerky which is 100% chicken breast. All of our dog food is human grade meaning you can eat it too! However, since it lacks salt, pepper and seasonings that humans enjoy it wouldn’t excite your taste buds the way a 5 star restaurant meal would.
